Movie Review: “Chronicle” (2012)

The story of a tormented teenager who videotapes everything he sees in everyday life, until one day he and two friends aquire telekinesis powers after touching a strange stone in a cave.

The “found footage” technique is very weel implemented here, through most of the movie anyway, it’s an audiovisual style that not only brings you closer to the characters, it gives them credibility. Hell, it even makes the whole premise of getting powers believable.

The movie is brilliantly paced and written, clocking at only 80 minutes minus the credits, feels like it’s way longer and despite being so short, it gives its time to each character, succesfully achieving character development.

It does have a problem. The plot and characters go to hell during the third act, in a partially bad way. It sort of becomes a disaster movie and the “found footage” concept loses credibility and consistensy. Not to mention that horrible final scene.

Anyway, it’s a great movie, very original, a little jewel that hopefully won’t be forgotten.

Rating: 7/10
